USA 1997, part 1

In the summer of 1997, I spent a month in the USA, mostly shirt-free even if the USA seem to be less shirtless-friendly than I expected. But the friends I was with did not care, so I had lots of good moments anyway.

The first days of the trip were spent on the road with Chris and Merry, driving all the way from Columbus, OH to Vacaville, CA where I spent the rest of the month at the home of Wendy and Curt. To be honest, only Chris and Merry took turns driving, as I have never bothered to learn :-)

On the left are Merry and me on Roosevelt Dam near Las Vegas. It was around midnight and the temp was still above 30°C. In the middle is me sitting on a rock at Zabriskie Point in the middle of DeathValley, with a 50°C temp. On the right are Chris, Merry and me finding some fresh air hugging a tree somewhere in Southern California.

Houston 96

This one was taken in Houston, TX where I went to visit my friend Derek and his family. Here I am with Nancy and Iain, Derek's wife and son, on Montrose Avenue, heart of Houston's gay neighbourhood. I had indeed taken a tank-top in my pocket, but never put it once... Well, once in fact, at Derek's request when we later entered a record shop in downtown Houston. Just to see two guys in their twenties shirtless inside the store... Wish I had not listened to Derek...

These three were taken at Wendy and Curt's place in Vacaville. On the left are Merry, Chris and me reading on the sofa. In the middle is me trying on a tie Wendy had bought for me. On the right are Merry, Chris and me doing the fools in the backyard. Poor Chris never understood how I could stand being without a shirt all the time, as he always wore a shirt *and* tshirt underneath. Must have been hypothermia ;-)
